Bardavissa (Barbara Denz, David Denz, and Elissa Barron) met during one of Dan Navarro’s pandemic-created online song-writing workshops and discovered they were all located on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. Their first in-person meeting when they joined forces on Elissa’s song ‘This A’int Love’ made it clear to everyone that something special was happening. After several collaborations on each other’s projects, they formed the trio as a going concern in September 2024.
The hallmark of Bardavissa’s performances is a combination of complex vocal harmonies supported by intricate guitar playing. Lead vocals are predominantly carried by Elissa and Barbara’s exceptional skills. David has found their sound to be a continual inspiration to up-his-game as an arranger and guitarist.
Musical styles vary widely. Elissa’s not-exactly-love-song This A’int Love features Barbara’s harmony weaving around Elissa’s lead. David’s co-writing project with deb Ewing, The Canary, is a traditional-sounding story with a contemporary twist. The trio’s cover of Mike Berman and deb Ewing’s The Poison Garden is a showcase of intricate three voice vocals. Taken together, a Bardavissa concert is a unique experience.
“Such wonderful singing, beautiful harmonies, exquisite arrangements, thoughtful choice of good songs (including The Poison Garden which I co-wrote). You need to hear this, and once you do you’ll probably want to hear it again.”
-Michael Berman
“Wonderful harmonies accompanied by some sweet guitar playing!”
-Tina Ross
